GoldMeyer trail- 2425.4 (21ish)
Cozy in our tents, some groans were exchanged about getting up in the rain. We slowly made our way onto trail and once on trail discovered that the alternate route isn't just a little rocky it's switchbacks down a boulder field kind of rocky. We moved slowly and made 6 miles by 10 o'clock. We ate lunch on a bridge before making our way back out. The rain picked up again around 3:30 and we thought we only had .6 to get back to the PCT; in reality, we had 3.something. We continued to walk in the rain, both feeling a bit miserable from being wet and cold but attempting to keep each other's spirits up. We spooked some elk in our way into camp and set up next to an older couple just doing this section.
Day 81
2425-2447 (21.96)
Today's elevation profile was something like 7,000 feet up and 4,000 down. We are getting into the thick of the Cascades and it is rough but beautiful. The skies were a bit clearer today and we were both in much better spirits. We spent our lunch break stuffing ourselves with food as we carried out way too much for this short section, we did not realize that we will already be walking into Stevens pass mile 15 tomorrow.
Day 82
2447-2465 (18.4)
I ran into a veteran this morning who was hiking with a group called Warrior Hike. Various organizations support the group with food, stipends, places to stay, etc. so that veterans can hike the PCT. He talked a lot about how life changing the trail has been for him and how the simplification of life has been such a mental reset for him. We walked with him until we took a break by a lake and ran into him again at town. Riss had trouble with her box arriving but thankfully it came in that same afternoon. We had our last root beer floats with Coppertone and made our way 4 miles up trail.
