Day 30
1090-1108(18)
Savannah dropped us off at the trailhead around 7 am this morning and we began our hike with our newly filled packs. The climb felt easy at first but I quickly changed my mind about that after about 4 miles. I couldn't get my pack comfortable and if it's possible to forget how to walk, that's what happened to me. Tripping constantly, rolling ankles constantly, knees giving out constantly. We both decided to just move slowly and however far we got wouldn't matter. We ended up making 19 miles at a pretty early hour and had a very slow evening at camp with a steady flow of other PCTers coming from town.
Day 31
1108-1129 (21)
My feet this morning were a bit of a hassle but the walk was beautiful and easy. I stopped to tape up some new hot spots on my foot and continued on to the 10th mile for a break at a nice lake. After a long morning break we walked on for another 5 miles or so and set up a nice spot for lunch where we were joined by a section hiker who had lived in San Diego before moving up to the area. He was familiar with our gymnastics facility and had actually spent time working out in the building where marissa and I practiced. He was out by himself for the week and was very interested in our trip. He hoped to do the whole thing one day but was sectioning since he had three young kids. We crossed paths with him a few times throughout the day and he took our picture at a lookout point that we walked to. Surprisingly we ran into some trail magic out on a dirt road where we drank root beer and ate (more) Oreos and Nutella. After this we made the climb to our campsite up on a ridge that didn't quite have a full view of the lake but we knew it was just over the edge behind some trees.
Day 32
1129-1154.5 (24.8)
After a sleepless night I forced myself out of my tent for a poop and immediately got bit by a mosquito on the butt. Irritated, I crawled back into my sleeping bag while Marisa got ready and hit the trail. I slowly made my way to the trail for one of my favorite mornings so far. I hiked along a ridge line while watching the sun rise over Lake Tahoe. It was absolutely stunning and the mountains to my right were beautiful as well. I made it to squaw valley ski resort by 9:30. And was able to talk to my dad from the top of a chair lift. The whole day was amazing and I did a lot of thinking about embracing each day and enjoying each moment. We had another ridge walk later in the day over Donner pass and we decided to stop at the next ski lodge for some juice. We finished off the day and decided to do our second night of cowboy camping! Also, I hit my 500 mile mark today! Woooo!
Day 33
1154.5-1179.2 (24.7)
This morning was a quick clean up since we slept without our shelters and we were off to the trail! I had my first interstate crossing which I was not particularly fond of and actually felt quite on edge all morning with ho close we were to roads. There were some odd people out on the trails and I was eager to get through it. The scenery was beautiful (as always) and we got to walk on a couple of ridges again today. With a water stop at 2 o'clock, about 18 miles already done and no more water sources for 7 miles, we decided to go for the seven and make it another 24 miler day. We were surprised to find that we only had 16 miles to get into town tomorrow! Camp was nice next to a stream but I had to set up my tent last minute because the skitters
were starting to come out. A nice guy we had crossed path a few times with set up camp with us and we all turned in early. Lots of rubbing my feet, rolling my muscles with my trekking poles, and stretching. To town tomorrow!!...with way too much food still on my back, oops!
